40 S & W Revolver...looking for recommendations

I saw this one and was wondering what people think of it:

https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...ducts_id/26315

I already have a 40 S&W semiautomatic handgun, but I think I would like to have a revolver as well. I figured if it was in the same caliber, there wouldnt be any chance of me putting the wrong ammo in either gun....lol. Any advice would be appreciated.

It's crazy.
Never seen anything like it.
Kinda cool though....

Looks like it's used in competition:

I have never used moon clips though...they kinda freak me out.

Are moon clips just for quick loading? I mean can you load the gun without a moon clip? I wouldnt think it would take too long to load 6 rounds but I suppose if TSHTF and things are ugly, a quick load may be beneficial.

Re: 40 S & W Revolver...looking for recommendations

You must use either full or half moon clips ...as the 40 S&W has no rim on the case...this is the same with revolvers in 9 mm and 45ACP.

There is a rimmed case version of the 45 ACP called a 45 Auto Rim....so you can skip the clips....but this is strictly a reloading option...no factory ammo.

The moon clips act kind of like a speed-loader that stays attached to the cases.

Neat idea if you like that ....I'd put my money towards a .357 Mag revolver.....gives you more options in shooting....38 specials up to 357 mag in same gun.

Might think about a carbine rifle in 40 S&W....Beretta makes one....neat to have a handy rifle in your pistol chambering....and the rifle will boost the pistol cartridge performance by about 50%....quite a bit more powerful....

Hey, that looks cool. Beretta carbine in 40S&W

has anyone here ever had the opportunity to shoot one?

If you want a wheel gun, get it in 357mag. This way you have superior stopping power and can train with dirt cheap 38sp reloads.

If your source of ammo is ironclad you may want to stay in one caliber but in the real future world where ammo supply may be short there is an advantage in diversity

Excellent point. I hadnt thought of it that way.

The Beretta carbine would be more appealing in 357 Sig or 10mm. Speaking of nice pistol round chambered carbines, anyone ever have the Ruger 10/22 lookalike in 44 Mag?

The 10mm is quite a stout load. As a matter of fact, 10mm enthusiasts call the .40 S&W the .40 short and weak LOL!!!

But, I digress...I wouldn't get it because moon clips are a pain in the ass. My dad has a 1918 Colt .45 ACP revolver and its real cool to shoot, but having to load up tons of moon clips suuuuuucks. Although its not too bad if you have the proper tools for the job

A .357 revolver can do more than any other pistol I know. Everything from low cost .38 spl plinking/target shooting....up to powerful .357 Mag.....if you can custom load, you can go up to 180 or even 200 grain Kieth Style bullets....fantstic medium/big game round.

If you have your carry gun bases covered ....and you do not need a small j-framed 5 shot snubby (everyone should have one of these...)...then the very next handgun in the pile would have to be a 4 to 6 inch (I'd prefer 6 inch for power and sight radius) .357 revolver. If you plan on shooting much...a 22LR pistol needs to be in your pistol collection as well.

3 to 5 basic handguns will fill out the complete range of pistol uses:

#1 = Carry Gun: For me that would be a small pocket gun - I like the 380 KelTec....or a small revolver in 38 Special. I see the 38 special as a second gun for the home - easy for wife to use. Even the 38 special is a bit too big for pocket carry in the summer....great for your winter coat pocket....

Sonuds like you have a 40 S&W as your carry gun? or only pistol? This is fine but probably demands a belt holster due to size....that is not my style....I found myself leaving the gun at home A LOT.....I like the smallest possible pocket semi-auto in 380 ACP....100% of the time I'm out of the house - I have it.

#2 = 22LR for target/practice/plinking/fun....dirt cheap ammo, no reloading required. For me this would be a Ruger, probably the 5.5 inch bull barrel or 6.875 in target taper barrel.

#3 = .357 Revolver. You can hunt deer with it. The 357 Mag is probably the best man stopper ever made in a reasonable sized revolver......45ACP, 10MM, 44 Spl, 357 Mag, 41 Mag, 44 Mag - in that order - are all great rounds as well. But the 357 can also shoot the 38 Special....so a better overall choice in a revolver.

Anyway....i know that is a lot of guns for folks that feel they only need 1 pistol....but when you expand beyond the first one...that would be my suggestion. If you plan on only going to the range a few times a year...you could skip the 22LR....if you shoot every week or so....the 22LR will pay for itself in ammo cost savings inside of 1 year. 22LR is also a nice pistol for small game like rabbits...and with a single loaded 22 BB Cap / 22 CB Cap is fairly quiet......in a rifle they sound like an air rifle....great for suburban rabbit killing in the back yard.

Here's the holster I use to carry my Taurus 24/7 pro. No one as far as I know can tell I'm packing.

Seems we think alike. My carry gun is the small HK-p7 9mm. loaded with silvertip hollowpoints it's supposed to be a relatively good stopper. Used to be standard issue for NJ State Troopers. I liked the squeeze cocker when the kids were still at home.
I also have a Colt Python 357 and the wife has a stainless chief's special 38.
For plinking I have the Ruger 10-22 target tapered bbl.

Confirmation from Hi Ho - an opinion I very much respect.

These are appealing if you already have the matching caliber Beretta 92 or Beretta 96 pistol since the carbine and the pistol accept the same magazine.

This is just a bonus.....I need to look and see if the 45ACP version uses a Beretta Magazine or the 1911.......in the old days, there was the Marlin Camp 9 and Camp 45 carbines that used S&W model 39 mags in the 9mm and standard 1911 mags in the Camp 45.....I've allways wanted to add a Camp 45 to the collection of guns but it would still not really be quite enough for good deer killing....whenever I think about the Camp 45....i force my thought towards a handy lever action carbine in 357 or 44 mag....

Actually, in single action revolvers you don't need the moon clips. Ruger makes a Blackhawk convertible that can shoot .45 Colt or .45 acp by switching cylinders.

Same thing with a .357 Mag / 9MM convertible. No clips. But both of these are single action rather than double action.

O.K....technically correct...but it required and entire different cylinder...I guess the "rimless - no moon" cylinders must headspace off the rim of the cartridge just like the chamber of the semiauto pistol.

I have a 40S&W handgun and a big pile of 40S&W ammo. The handgun is not a Beretta.

It would be appealing if the rifle and the handgun used the same clips, but they dont. :elefant:

How does a hollow point 40S&W round perform at 150 or 200 feet... shot out of a 16" rifled barrel?

anyone?

Probably as well as or better than your pistol at muzzle...I'll see if I can work something up.

I have all 40 sw handguns, was actually thinking something similar, the wife would like to start carrying and I was thinking of getting her some sort of snubnose hammerless revolver she could carry in her purse (if that exists)

I agree. 40 still a bit of an oddball. 357 all over the place. Can't find much cheaper practice ammo than 38

Re: 40 S & W Revolver...looking for recommendations

40 is hard to get reliably. I have two 40 handguns for ammo sharing purposes. The cops all use it though, so there might be a source if you ran out of preps. That's also why it's hard to get.
